My big sister is getting married. I don't actually have any sisters. God gave me two brothers and took one away from me (too early for my liking) but He also blessed me with two women in my life who I've known forever, my sisters of sorts. And now, one of them is getting married. The other is already married, three kids, white picket fence, SUV, the whole nine. Her husband is a gem. I look at them and hope I can be half as happy as they are someday. Yes people, big shocker. I'm a closet romantic. Blah diddy blah blah blah. Moving right along....
So back to what I was saying, my sister Denise is getting married. I'm so happy for her. I've known Denise since I was three years old, which is as far back as I can remember, really. She's lived right downstairs all my life and we grew up together and in a world full of boys, she was one of the only girls around for me to look up to. Of course, my brothers were a much bigger influence on me but she did what she could. As we got older, she was always there to listen to whatever bs I had going on, always around to offer a friendly word of advice, talk some sense into me, give me some perspective or just be a shoulder to cry on. She's been more than a sister, she's been a mentor and a friend. And now she's getting married and she's happier than I've ever seen her. I feel honored to be a part of this experience, this chapter in her life, and I plan on capturing every moment I can. Last week was her bridal shower...People finally showed up (everyone was on CP time that day) and then it was time to bring her in...(forgive the sound delay, my camera got emotional) So it was supposed to be a surprise but bridezilla knows all. Still, the hard work of the bridesmaids really paid off. Everyone had a fantastic time and the bride to be was very happy. It was undoubtedly the most fun I've ever had at a bridal shower, and I've been to my fair share of them. After she greeted everyone, we got down to the good stuff, food and games. My personal favorite was the wedding gown design contest. Armed with two rolls of toilet paper, tape and whatever else they could find, our guests transformed into a bunch of fashionistas right before our eyes! And then, of course, the bride had to get dressed up and work the runway as well... And then, the best part. Cake and a little chill time. All in all, it was a really great day. I can't wait to see her walk down the isle and when she does, I'll be right there, camera in hand, to capture all the foolish moments. Did you think it would be something sentimental? Nah, that's not how we roll. As sure as I know Denise, I know that by the end of her wedding day, I will have a killer headache from all the laughter. Never a dull moment with that one, I just hope the groom can handle her.... Labels: friends and fam, fun times, in real life |
