This past Labor Day weekend has been amazing, to say the least. Usually for Labor Day, I hang out in Brooklyn, BBQ hop with some friends and pray that I don't get shot sometime within the three days that everyone in Brooklyn seem to lose their minds. I don't know what it is about Labor Day and the parade and the music and the general Caribbean vibe that give people the urge to bust a cap in someone but I guess I'll never truly understand that particular Labor Day tradition. And sadly, it is a tradition. Happens every year like clockwork. As sure as you will eat turkey on Thanksgiving, you will hear about someone getting shot on Labor Day. It's just one of those things. But I digress.
Labor Day weekend was especially great for me this year because I got a chance to get out of town and run away from some really bad news. I took a trip to the Delaware/Maryland border, not far from Ocean City and it was just what I needed. It's crazy how God knows just what we need and He's always on time. All this time, I kept hesitating to go on this trip when it was exactly what I needed, even before I knew I needed it.
So I went on this road trip with my good friends from Laos in Harmony and had a really great time. Being with them in such a peaceful setting felt like a spiritual awakening. It's nice to know that even though I may struggle with certain things in life, I'm not alone. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and in getting to know them more over the weekend, I also learned a lot about myself.
Unfortunately, I don't have many good pictures from this trip. I think I enjoyed myself so much, I actually forgot to take pictures, which NEVER happens. But I can't leave you guys hanging so I'll do you one better. Here's video of our house and general foolish antics. Excuse my camera, it was being a little emotional. And my laughter in the background...I laugh like a crazy person. Don't judge me.So there you have it. We went, we saw, we conquered and then we came home. It's almost a week later and I'm still not ready to be back in Brooklyn. But I have to say thanks to Laos for welcoming me at the last minute and making me feel right at home. Now that I know them, I really couldn't imagine life without them. Labels: friends and fam, fun times, in real life, vacation |
