This past weekend, I went on an impromptu road trip with my ace boon coon Cassy and we just had so much fun. I love a good road trip, especially a random one and honestly, this is the kind of crazy spontaneous thing we do. So on Thursday, she called me and said "yo...I think I'mma drive to Maryland" and I was like "son...you know I'm in there like swimwear" and that's how it went down. I called my sister, she called her cousin and once we were sure we both had a place to sleep we were gone with the wind.I know you guys are thinking it's crazy that we went on this trip together and didn't even spend the weekend together but we still had fun doing what we do and honestly, with the general mood of annoyance floating around us both, it was a much needed break from Brooklyn. But here's the thing about Brooklyn. Every time you leave, you're just reminded of why you love it so damn much. So we spent some time in the DM, didn't make it to the V but it's all good. And this morning, before we headed back home, we spent a few hours just shooting the breeze with my big bro. Even though it's been years since he's lived in New York, this dude is a die hard New Yorker so it's always fun chillin with him. And of course in the midst of talking about art and music and all these things, we had to talk about the lingo we spent the past two days trying to translate. These country folk (yea, I said it) out there talking bout some "got me guh and got me hipped" and don't forget "nigga let me cook cuz that shit ain't famous" but not before "we go to the club cuz it's mad bait out there"...yea. I'mma let that marinate for a second. So y'all know me. When people ask where I'm from, I don't say New York, I say BROOKLYN and it'll be Brooklyn 'til the death of me. So you can get me tight but never "guh" and I can't get you "hipped" but I can put you on to some things. And saying something ain't "famous" is not the wave. Also, "bait" is for fishermen but where the hoes at? I won't let the DMV cook but I'mma let them live because as you can see, we have our own lingo out here. But really guys? "guh"?? C'mon son!! Y'all know Cassy and I have no behavior so we were cooking all the way back to Brooklyn. And when we drove past that sign (Welcome to Brooklyn. How sweet it is!) we stopped cooking, ordered some take out and bumped some Biggie all the way home. My city isn't perfect. But it is mine.
