Hi y'all. You guys know I love me a good DIY right? I totally blame this macbook. I used to lay in bed at night and have cool ideas and be too lazy to get up and research them on my desktop and then forget all about it in the morning. Now I have cool ideas AND Google, Etsy and Ebay at my fingertips smh. So here's another DIY, brought to you by my macbook and my insomnia.DIY Thread Wrapped HeadphonesWhat you'll need:
headphones (duh)
thread and/or yarn
scissors
So this was relatively easy. If you're familiar with lanyard patterns or friendship bracelets or anything of the sort, it'll be a cake walk. You're really just doing a lanyard pattern around the headphones. Most people use embroidery thread but you can also use sock yarn which is what I used on mine.
I bought my yarn from Michaels but you can also find them on Etsy or any local sewing/knitting supply store. I used a self-patterning sock yarn so that the yarn would change colors as I wrapped my headphones but there are plenty of options if you only want one color. When I finished, this is what they looked like:
 
What I love about these is that they're super cute and they don't tangle anymore which is a plus. I was gonna do a full tutorial but it really is super simple. Plus, Jesus died so Google could live. I just thought it would be a fun little project to spruce up my headphones. I also ended up doing two others in embroidery thread for my friends. Here's what they looked like:

During my vacation, the technology gods did not smile down on me. We were supposed to get our wifi hooked up my first week there but it never happened. So I didn't have wifi for the entire three weeks, which suited me just fine. But that means that whatever downtime I did have, I used to work on my DIY projects. So in addition to acid wash shorts, this also happened:High Waisted Spiked ShortsWhat you'll need:
high waisted jeans
scissors
sharp edged tweezer -or- knitting needle
screw-on spikes
First, cut the jeans to your preferred length. This was yet another pair of jeans that had ripped in the inner thigh so I just cut them right where they ripped which, conveniently enough, was the perfect length for me.
Next, use your tweezer or knitting needle to make a small hole in the denim. Try to move the threads of denim aside instead of ripping right through them so that the holes don't get bigger with each wash.
 
Insert the screw back of the spike into the hole you made from the inside of the jeans...
And screw on the top of the spike. Place as many as you want on the shorts. When I was finished, mine looked like this:
I used 10mm silver cone spikes that I got from this cool little Etsy shop (big surprise). They have so many other shapes, sizes and colors though and they were really great. Also, there are dozens of other Etsy shops that sell spikes and studs and all that good stuff.
This was a relatively easy project and when I was done, I had another cute pair of shorts to wear on vacation. So aside from going on vacation and shopping like a maniac for aforementioned vacation, I did a few DIY projects this past month. Studding, spiking, even tried my hand at shredding but I'll leave that to the experts. It usually starts when I'm up late shopping sales and then I'll see something really cute and think "..I can make that" and the rest, as they say, is history. So this time, it was acid wash shorts. My problem is that I have so many pairs of cutoffs. I have big thighs that rub together and then I get holes in my jeans so I just end up cutting them. So I figured, I have all these cutoffs lying around, I may as well do something with them. And that's how this happened.... Acid Wash ShortsWhat You'll Need:
a pair of jeans (preferably dark wash)
scissors
a bucket
bleach
water
rubber bands
So the method I used was from a tutorial I found on YouTube but it's really straightforward. It's kind of like reverse tie dye. First, cut the jeans to your preferred length. Next, roll them up into a ball and tie them with rubber bands. I poured equal parts bleach and water into the bucket and the tutorial says to leave them in the bucket for a good while but I took mine out after a few minutes. I guess it depends on the jeans. I don't have a before shot of those jeans but, meh. This is what they looked like after:
I decided not to stop there though, because what's the fun in that? I got some studs from this awesome little Etsy shop. I absolutely LOVE Etsy because any time I'm feeling crafty, they have exactly what I need and it never costs a grip. So I bought 200 10mm steampunk brass studs and studded the back pocket.
 
These 4-prong studs were really easy to work with because you just have to figure out where you want to place them, push them through the fabric and close it on the other side.
   
And there you have it. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. It's a super cute style for Summer. And even though the Summer is almost over (*tears*) it has to return sooner or later. And when it does, I'll be wearing these bad boys and waiting to greet the season with open arms.

So lucky me, I got to start my spring break a day early. I'm pretty sure it's only because my history professor has senioritis. Like maybe he's about to retire so he just doesn't really care. But who am I to judge? We've all been there, right? Totally besides the point though. Since I had today free, I decided to finally get started on this diy project that I've been wanting to do for the longest.As those of you who know me already know, JP got me a MacBook Pro this past Christmas and I've been loving it. But even before I got my Mac, I've been excited about all the cute ways I could decorate it and accessorize it and make it my own. You know, typical girly shit. So one day as I was blogwalking, I came across this idea and I've been dying to put my own spin on it ever since. And here it is!
Washi Tape Keyboard
What you'll need:
washi tape
scissors
clear keyboard cover
time
For those of you who don't know, washi tape is this really cute japanese tape that comes in all different colors and patterns and the consistency is like that of paint tape. I ordered my washi tape from Le Box Boutique because it was ridiculously easy. You can order by the foot or convo them on Etsy for custom orders. Plus, it comes in this freaking adorable eco-friendly packaging. I'm in love with the wooden spools.
So I got ten rolls but only ended up using seven because two of them didn't really go with the color scheme and the other was more opaque than the rest.
There was really no exact measurement, I kinda just rolled it across the keys and then cut. The uneven ends were really working on my nerves (I'm slightly OCD that way, don't judge me) but when the clear keyboard cover goes over it, you really don't even notice.

I'm kinda loving this. And honestly, even though I feel like it would look better on the white keyboard because the tape is translucent, I find the backlit keyboard makes it sexy. BOO YOW!
