It's been a while since I've done this but 2016 was shit. Let's just put that out there. So now that it's a new year, I thought I'd get back to this writing thing. If I'm remembering correctly, there was an abundance of black girl magic in the beginning of 2016. And though we're not too far into the new year yet, I can't help but notice all of the black women out here flourishing. Needless to say, it's hella inspiring. Now I'll be the first to admit that I suck at keeping up with people. I'm not what you'd call a social butterfly. But to all of my friends from all walks of life, I just want to tell you that when life gets crazy, don't be discouraged. We may not talk everyday but just know that I see you and I'm over here, quietly rooting for you. I just want us all to win. So on that note, here are three beautiful young black women who are dope as hell. I have known these woman at one time or another in my life and every time I see them, they inspire me. I hope their black girl magic will have the same effect on you. Ti Nika Shenika and I grew up together in church and her style has evolved into something beautiful and all her own. I've admired the way she puts pieces together and just knew it was something she could share with others. And though I wasn't sure if she'd ever do it, you could say I waited for it like a Beyonce´ stan waits for an album to drop. There's no promo, no single. But sometimes, you just have to wait with blind faith. And like Bey, she delivered. Find her awesome lookbooks here. "I know you gon' miss me. For we been together like Nike Airs and crisp tees"Another one has come and gone and once again, it felt entirely too short. I know I shouldn't complain. I'm more fortunate than a lot of people and I get opportunities to go places and experience things that most people don't but I always feel like I could've crammed just one more thing into my Summer if I only had a little more time. Now, Fall is upon us and as much as I can appreciate sweater weather, I just miss short shorts and sundresses. I guess my love of Summer just guarantees that I'll never be satisfied with these three short months. Also, I'm sure the fact that I live in New York has a lot to do with it. It wouldn't be so bad if we actually had the four seasons we're supposed to instead of one month of Fall, six and a half months of Winter, three weeks of Spring and then what feels like five minutes of Summer. Still, I try to make the most of it and this year was no exception. So here is a snapshot of my Summer shenanigans. I miss them already. 1. The unofficial start of Summer No, I'm not talking about Memorial Day. I usually like to kick my summer off around my birthday which is a week before Memorial Day. So I usually get together with some friends, and have a mellow turn up. This year's was pretty memorable and I had a great time. 2. Becoming one with nature So this Summer, I took a few trips to Prospect Park with my sis and her son and it turned out to be an interesting adventure. We fed ducks, took a ride on a surrey, had ice cream, ran through the sprinklers and even had some delicious #DRAAAAANKS. Plus, the view of the lake is beautiful. 3. Went to the Ball And no, I didn't lose a glass slipper. I went to the Governor's Ball, this really great music festival on Randall's Island. Three days straight of good music, good food and good beer. I finally got to see Florence + the Machine perform which was the highlight of that experience for me. Drake was also amazing and the silent disco was pretty cool too but the #EEEEEATS are what really stole the show. 4. Took a trip to the 'burg And that would be Williamsburg. For Smorgasburg. Because the only thing better than a music festival is a food festival and it's not Summer in New York without Smorgasburg. I actually took more than one trip this Summer because the fat girl within just couldn't stay away. The Ramen Burger was reason enough to go back but then I discovered the Dough donuts and I was hooked. As always, The Good Batch, Milk Truck and Home Frite did not disappoint. 5. A milestone and a first So my chunky monkey celebrated his first birthday this Summer. I always say I don't think I have a maternal bone in my body and that kid makes me believe it more and more everyday. I love him but I kinda suck as a Godmother. Which is fitting because I, too have a sucky Godparent. My Godfather is the worst. Whenever you really need him, he's super clutch but other than that, forget a happy birthday or a Merry Christmas unless you send him a written reminder because he never answers his phone. So maybe that'll be me. Sucky but clutch. I'm okay with that. As long as he knows he can come to me if he ever needs anything, I think I've fulfilled my duties. 6. Restaurant week So New York Restaurant Week Started the week I was leaving for vacation. But I owed a friend a lunch date before I left So I finished shopping and packing and picked a place off of the very extensive list of restaurant participants. I decided to play it safe with one I had heard good things about so we went to Tao. It left something to be desired for him but I had a moment with the Spicy Tuna Roll and really, that was all I needed. That said, I owe him a Steak for Winter Restaurant Week but the company and the drinks were good so no complaints here. 7. Vacation, all I ever wanted At the end of July, I packed my bags and headed to a little island in the West Indies called Grenada. It's where my parents are originally from and it's beautiful. Admittedly, I haven't posted those vacation pics because it was such a mellow and relaxing vacation, I didn't do much to show. But mostly because posting them would solidify that Summer is over. However, now that Summer actually is over, what the hell? In any event, I enjoyed myself. 8. Went Greek When I got back to the city, A friend of mine introduced me to this amazing Greek restaurant in Chinatown of all places. I had never tried Greek before but it was sooooooo good. So, so good. So good that I went back the next weekend, paid it forward and passed on the secret of the amazing Greek place in Chinatown. It's not so secret now that my favorite food blog has let the cat out of the bag but still definitely worth a trip. I still have dreams about the Baklava. Totally worth it. 9. Partied with The Row This Summer, I got to see my favorite group of poets, The Strivers Row. And even though my favorite poet is no longer with the group, they were as phenomenal as always. After the show, we got to hang out and party with the poets which I thought was pretty dope. The DJ left much to be desired but the drinks were good and the poetry was bomb.
10. Went blonde
So earlier this year, I got the blonde bug and I said that I wouldn't let 2015 end without trying on blonde. I mean...I guess blondes have fun? I have just as much fun if not more with my real, brownish black hair so meh. I was also a dread head for a few weeks. It's been an interesting hair year thus far and it's not even over yet so I'll be doing another post about that soon. If you missed the first one, check it out here. This was just kind of a highlight reel of my Summer. There were a lot of great times in between. Awesome parties, good drinks, even better food, random shenanigans and I was fortunate enough to enjoy it all with good friends. Now that it's hoodie season, I guess I'll turn down for cold weather. Until next year, keep warm folks! Labels: friends and fam, fun times, good eats, in real life, listy, personals, pop of culture, vacation Saturday, July 25, 2015 || 1:56 PM
I remember a simpler time, when my makeup collection consisted of a chapstick in my back pocket. Those were the days....After years of fighting it, I have a makeup "collection" (I'm using that word very loosely). What's more, it slightly resembles that of a grown woman. Which I'm actually kinda proud of. So I figured I'd tell you all what's in this collection/my makeup routine (and by "routine" I mean what I use the once-ish a month that I actually wear makeup) because even though I'm not about to do a Youtube tutorial or a "what's in my makeup drawer" video, people are into this stuff. Right? RIGHT?? Anyway.... Stuff in this "collection": EYES Urban Decay Book of Shadows 4 -includes 16 shadows, liquid eyeliner, mascara and the eyeshadow primer potion BH Cosmetics 120 color palette Estee Lauder Deluxe Eyeshadow Compact Clinique all about shadow quad Clinique lash building primer Clinique lash doubling mascara Clinique high impact mascara Clinique quickliner (cream) -intense ebony, intense plum and intense ivy Benefit They're Real mascara Givenchy Phenomen' Eyes mascara Estee Lauder Intense Kajal eyeliner in Blackened Black (pencil) Sephora retractable eyeliner in shimmer bronze (crayon) Sephora Classic Line 24hr felt liner (liquid) Kiko automatic precision eyeliner in 705/blue-ish (crayon) LIPS Maybelline Baby Lips (that time chapstick almost made a comeback) -plum, pink and nude Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fleshtone Makeover Essentials lip gloss -coral, bright pink, soft pink and champagne Kiko matte precision lip pencil in 306/bright red Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick in Berlin Buxom Full-On Lipstick in Las Vegas Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Lipstick in Strength BH Cosmetics Color Lock Long Lasting Matte Lipstick in Passionate Sephora Cream Lip Stain -Always Red, Endless Purple, Forever Fuchsia and Mandarin Muse MAC Lipstick -Cyber (satin), Diva (matte) Clinique Chubby Stick intense moisturizing lip color balm -Mightiest Maraschino, Broadest Berry Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien FACE Bare Minerals Prime Time foundation primer Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Warm Tan Bare Minerals All-Over Face Color in Warmth Bare Minerals Original Mineral Vail Estee Lauder Deluxe All-Over Face Compact -includes three blush shades and a bronzer Makeover Essentials Shimmer Powder Brush in Bronze Benefit Watt's Up Highlighter Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream in Deep Chanel Powderlights in Rose Dusk tl;dr I have a lot of shit. So now, onto my "routine" Foundation intimidates me. Which is why I use the Clinique CC Cream because I don't need a primer, a moisturizer or even a brush. I just rub it all over my face and it's everything in one. I don't even need a concealer because it blurs everything. What I love about it is that it's super subtle. It doesn't look or feel like I'm wearing makeup but it's like putting a very subtle filter on your face. Eyeshadow is my favorite because even though I don't wear it often, there's so much you can do with it. Urban Decay has some really great, super pigmented colors but I've really been loving the BH Cosmetics 120 palette lately because there are so many color combos and looks you can create. I'm pretty hopeless with eyeliner but once I put on mascara, it's a little easier to make a straight line. I usually use the Clinique liners because they're the easiest and they don't smudge. Lipstick is kind of an obsession of mine because even if I don't do anything else to my face, I can always put a color on my lips and look like I tried. This is probably the laziest lazy girl makeup routine you've ever heard of. That's fine. I've always felt like I'm not girly enough to put in more effort than I do. It's a miracle I've even gotten this far. I've accepted it though. God blessed me with really good looks so it's all good. I saw this woman putting on her makeup on the train the other day and wanted to give her a round of applause. I can barely get mascara on in my bright ass bathroom without smudging some on my nose. So for the women who do put in the effort, especially the ones who don't need to because God also blessed you with extremely good looks, I salute you. So today, I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and realizing I follow some pretty dope people, I decided I'd share. Now these aren't famous people or companies, just normal, everyday people who have consistently amazing photos. Honorable mention goes to Beyoncé & Solange (of course), Banksy & HONY (for awesome art), The Infatuation (for constant food porn) and CurlBox (for daily hairsparation). Some of these people I know personally and some, I happily stumbled onto their Instagram pages. So without further ado, here are my top ten favorite instagrammers. 10. Bacon No, not the food. Only the cutest cat on Instagram. Yes, even cuter than Lil Bub and that's no easy feat. Bacon is my spirit animal. And now, to up the cuteness factor, he's joined by his little sister, Maple. It's just too much. 9. Yoyoha Because it's art. On coffee cups. A combination of two of my favorite things. What's not to love? 8. Tikedi I've known her since middle school and now she makes and sells beautiful shredded clothing and is also a pretty awesome graphic designer. Her site is also in the blogwalk (in the sidebar) and her business instagram is @shoptikedi. Check it out for more shredded goodness. 7. Fashenika We grew up in the same church and I recognized her as a beautiful, intelligent and motivated young woman. Also, her style is impeccable.
6. Moe
A pretty good friend of mine. His beard game is really strong and he's seemingly on a mission to bike all over the world. So there are a lot of bike things, food things, hipster things...things like that.
5. Food Baby A man going out to eat with his son = pictures of really good food, usually with a really cute baby in the background. It's the most adorably delicious thing you'll see. 4. Alex This is my soul sistah so I may be a little biased but I love the way she captures this city that we both love. Her unapologetic view of life is everything. Also, her food and fashion pics are amazing. Her site is also linked in the blogwalk. 3. Kish Some things I find attractive in men: height, beard, style. This man has all three of those things. His style is amazing. The man knows his angles and knows how to dress well without looking like he's trying too hard. He's a fashion blogger based in Canada and I'm definitely a fan. 2. Abigail I don't know if this goes against my own rule because she's semi-famous. Some of you may recognize her from House of DVF on E! but I'm kinda glad her friend won it and not her. Her own designs are so amazing and I feel like had she won it, being DVF's brand ambassador would have taken away from her own work. Also, she's gorgeous! 1. Roxie An old friend from high school, this girl has some of the dopest visuals on Instagram. That's really all I can say about it. I'll let her pics speak for themselves. So those are my top ten Instagram faves. Be sure to follow them because they're so dope (obviously) and let me know what some of your favorites are. Also, follow me on Instagram. I'm not nearly as talented as the folks mentioned above but 60% of my feed is pictures of food and even though I couldn't really tell you what the other 40% is, that has to count for something. Everybody likes food...right? Labels: friends and fam, in real life, listy, personals, pop of culture Monday, September 2, 2013 || 9:11 PM
Death has taught me many things. In the last four years, I've lost my grandfather, brother, and three uncles. So in the last four years, this is what I've learned:1. You never get used to it. No matter how many people die around you, you will never get used to people dying around you. It will always take you by surprise, even if they were really sick or really old, or both. You will always feel like you've had the wind knocked out of you and every time you think about them, you will struggle to catch your breath because you will always remember the feeling of having the wind knocked out of you. 2. It will never get better. I don't know why people say it will when loved ones pass away. It is the biggest lie ever, not to mention a huge set up. You'll keep waiting for it to get better and it never will because subconsciously, what you're really waiting for is everything to go back to normal and normal doesn't exist without the person you lost. This seems to be the one thing that time cannot heal. Because of course it is. 3. People suck.* It's funny how the people who say "I'm here if you need anything" really aren't. It's just a thing people say when tragic things happen because they don't know what else to say and they are a waste. Usually, the people who matter don't say that because they're too busy being there. For anything. Literally. When my brother died, I remember sitting in silence with my best friend as I cried my eyes out. She didn't know what to say so she didn't say anything. She was just there. I appreciated that more than she can ever understand. My other "best friend" was MIA until she could be around me and not be uncomfortable because I might spontaneously burst into tears over my dead brother. We're no longer friends. Obviously. 4. #foreveralone. After someone passes, you will feel like that person was the only other person on the planet and you are now completely and utterly alone. You will be surrounded by people and wish that you could trade them all for the one you lost because only they would understand how you're feeling. Ironically, you wouldn't be feeling that way if they were there. It's a total catch 22. 5. No one gets it. For a while, you feel like you're the only one who lost someone because you're only thinking about your relationship with that person. You're too hurt to see past your own grief and realize that there are dozens of other people mourning the same loss. It doesn't really matter though. None of them can see past their grief to yours anyway. Which brings us back to number four. #forveralone 6. Things will never be the same. Because of course they won't. Maybe I'm being morbid or pessimistic or whatever. But this is my reality. This December will make four years since my brother passed away. I haven't gotten used to it. Things haven't gotten better. People still suck. No one gets it. And things will never be the same. And now, I have to say goodbye to yet another uncle entirely too soon. This is life's great irony, that the only thing guaranteed is death. I'm tired of people saying life is short. It's the longest thing I've ever done. And with every loved one I've lost, it only gets longer. So now, I pretend nothing's wrong and that everything's ok. Some people call that strength but sometimes, you just gotta fake it 'til you make it. *People definitely suck. Like...for real. And they have a way of showing their true colors when you actually need them. But I thank God everyday for the few that don't suck, the ones that have helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. You know who you are and you guys are my family. I love and appreciate you all more than you can ever understand. Thank you. Labels: friends and fam, in real life, listy, personals Tuesday, January 29, 2013 || 1:20 AM
Something that's been on my mind lately (and by lately, I mean since this afternoon) is engagement. Not so much weddings or wedding planning or even marriage. Just engagement. I think about this from time to time but today, I started thinking about it when I saw this young woman on the bus wearing a beautiful engagement ring. She was texting someone and she had this glow about her face. At moments, she looked stressed but then every now and then, she'd look down at her ring with this look of awe on her face. And then she'd get kinda self conscious about using her left hand. And then she'd go back to texting and forget about it. I know it sounds kind of weird but she just captured my attention and wouldn't let it go. And then I started thinking about the possibility of me getting engaged and how I would want it to go. It's funny, most women picture the wedding. I always picture the engagement. However every woman, despite what she may tell you, thinks about the ring.I've always loved square-cut solitaires, maybe diamonds in the band, I'm partial to Cartier. As for the proposal, I don't need a lot of drama, pomp and circumstance. I don't think the proposal should outdo the ring. I've always pictured it over breakfast one morning. Something simple and straight to the point: "I love you and I'd really like to make you my wife. *slides ring across table* thoughts?" I also wouldn't want to have a long engagement because I feel like a proposal should come after a long relationship. Four years minimum. Some people don't need that long but a proposal is a promise and I'd like to be absolutely sure I can keep that promise before I agree to it. A proposal is also like giving the world your two weeks notice. I wouldn't want to be engaged for more than a year. That said, I wouldn't accept a proposal from someone if we aren't both financially stable and really ready in all aspects for that type of commitment. That's as far as my thoughts go. Like I said, I never give the wedding much thought. But that's because I wouldn't want a big wedding. Don't get me wrong, those are the most fun ones to go to and I'd do it if money weren't an option but I'm not Kim Kardashian so.... *shrug* I always picture something small and intimate but still elegant. I'd want to put the money saved towards a house but I'd definitely have the party later. Maybe for an anniversary (think about the Kim K reference. This makes sense.) These are just my thoughts and personal preferences. For everyone who sees it differently or did or will do it differently, that's cool too. To each his own. I think about all of my friends who are engaged and my heart smiles to see them so happy. But even though I may think about it, engagement is far off for me. For now, I think I'll focus on kicking ass at everything I do and being happy with #him and for the fact that he's no more or less than I need him to be. I haven't been this happy and content with my life in a long time. So I also have to thank God for being so amazing that He answers prayers I didn't even pray yet. I told y'all, hakuna matata. God got this. Labels: babble and rant, listy Wednesday, January 2, 2013 || 12:26 PM
In keeping with the theme of "new year, better me" I thought I'd make a list. Because lists are awesome and they make me feel productive and also because I have the attention span of a flea and sometimes, this is the only way I'll remember things. Don't judge me.However this, my first list of the year will be a little different than others I've written. I find New Years resolutions to be a bit pointless. I've resolved to stop biting my nails a million times in my life. I've only succeeded once. I'm not liking the sound of that success rate. So instead, I figured I'd make a list of goals I'd like to accomplish during the course of this year. I thought if I called them something different, shit might actually get done. Pray for me, y'all. 2013 goals
2013, let's rock this bitch! Labels: listy Wednesday, October 3, 2012 || 9:48 AM
So far, this has been another terrible horrible no good very bad week for me. And it's only Wednesday, can you imagine? So last night, amidst my tossing and turning and everything-but-sleeping, I did a lot of thinking. And then that made me sad so I put my headphones on and listened to music until (mercifully) I fell asleep. When I woke up three hours later, with tears in my eyes for the memory of peaceful sleep, I just stuck those ear buds right back in. But I thought a lot about how music has, almost literally saved my life in the past. And maybe that sounds crazy but there has been more than one occasion that it's kept me from completely losing my mind and going over the edge. And who knows, maybe that doesn't sound so crazy. But here, in no particular order are 5 songs that have saved my life (or at the very least, my mind) in the past.
What God brought you through - Laos in Harmony
So this is a really big one for me and not just because I know the artist. They performed this song once before my brother died and the words just resonated with me and I have no idea why. After my brother passed, it was all I could think about (anyone who's heard them perform this song can probably guess why). Singing it was the only thing that got me through the day even though I could only remember one part. And then a few days after he passed, they sang it and the director dedicated it to me and I just lost it. After days of not letting anyone see me cry and pretending to be strong, I just broke down into these big heaving sobs in the audience and I didn't even care. To this day, every time I hear it, I think of him. I've stopped bursting into tears every time they sing it but I still doubt they really know how much it means to me and how much I appreciate them for it.
I'll trust you Lord - Donnie McClurkin
This song also got me through some pretty tough times after my brother passed. The only way I could make sense of that and keep from losing my mind was for me to keep telling myself that everything happens for a reason. So I had to trust God. Also, the words of that song were pretty specific to my exact situation but I just took it as a sign. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted...and all that jazz.
He's able - Deitrick Haddon
I don't know why I picked this song but it has gotten me through everything. Every bad breakup and even the not so bad ones. Every family drama, every tough time I can think of. Every time I feel like I can't handle the things going on in my life, I listen to this song and take comfort in the words, especially the part about God fulfilling His promises because He did promise He wouldn't give us more than we could bear and even though it sometimes feels like it's so much more, God knows what we can bear better than we do. It's our trials and how we handle them that make us stronger and better people.
No weapon - Fred Hammond
I think this one is pretty self explanatory. Just that assurance and again, God's promises. They're both very comforting during tough times.
Hold me now - Kirk Franklin
Last but not least, the man himself. I can relate to this song soooooo much. If for nothing else than for the fact that there are some truly screwed the hell up people in this world who will hurt you every way they know how, just because. And it's reassuring to know that God hasn't turned away from you even though we all give Him reason to.
So this is how I've gotten through life for the past three years. I feel like my smile is a miracle and these songs and the reminders that they provide are the reason I've been able to fake it til I make it for so long. Now, the only question on my mind is when the hell am I actually going to make it?

Remember that song "happiness runs in a circular motion..."? I used to sing that song with my sister all the time. We can be pretty big weirdos sometimes. Don't judge us.
Anywho, I've been dealing with crappy ass writers block since I got back from vacation (I'm back from vacation...just fyi) and so that's why it's been so quiet on this here blog. I've realized that when I can't write but I force myself to anyway, I end up rambling (much like right now) and writing total basura. So I'll get to the point now before this turns into one of those things. Earlier, I was talking to...someone (cue mysterious foreshadowing) and he very wisely suggested that I write about what makes me happy. And I have this whole spiel in my head about how as artists, writers tend to draw from very emotional places when they create some of their best work and more often than not, those emotions may not be of the happy variety but it's awesome to write about happiness and the things that cause it and the gist of this whole run-on sentence is that I'm writing another list and YOU WILL DEAL!! Things that make me happy: .guacamole .things covered in guacamole .summer nights .shits and giggles with Cass .watching movies with Grande .shoes .facial hair of epic proportions .bunun .retail therapy .Haitian "BBQs" .haircuts .Greenz .Den's nicknames .Wanda in the kitchen .Naomi's skin tone debates .laughing until I cry .the biggest fail since McChicken .Laos on vacation .sammich making hoes .NYC .Thanksgiving .Frisky Panda at Thanksgiving .Frisky Panda anytime, really .old school video games ."meaningful" conversations with my dad .Andy's kitchen .spring cleaning .kompa .JP on a normal day .good basketball .B squared So...I hope you guys enjoyed this list because I did. And my writers block is slowly ebbing away so hopefully, the next thing you read won't be another list. Even though I love these things. But...you know...that's just me. Anywhoozers, I'm out. Later days. Labels: babble and rant, listy Sunday, July 8, 2012 || 11:31 PM
Right now, my brain is filled with things that are preventing me from drifting off into the sweet slumber that is so earnestly calling my name. So I'll write. Because what the hell else is there? And since I barely have enough brainpower at the moment to even type, I'll keep it simple. You guys know I love a good list. Also, I feel like summertime spurs these lists of mine. But that's probably because during the summer, I'm always doing some shit that's reminiscent of some other shit I've done. And my lists are all reminiscent of some shit I've done. So now I'll stop talking shit and get to it. And I'll try to make it as happy as I can, because je suis triste (hence the sleeplessness) and my sad posts are usually basura so I'll try not to depress the life out of you all.
I miss... •trips to Ocean Breeze •Prince Albert court (still) •pizza and South Park and silk sheets •Brockley •the original Boodacakus •stealing hats •Tony's beard •Cass's butt •naked tuna melts •frinkashafrinka •soccer in Regency •a couch for Matt •10.21.11 •Summit Creek •turning without leaning •Sunday morning pancakes •3 (Grenadian) musketeers •H park •Pedro's barbeques •drunken Miami adventures •Patrick's elbow •Yolo birthday celebrations This actually wasn't sad at all. And now, I feel so much better. And I realize that this will seem like a bunch of random and meaningless nonsense to most, but that's ok. Each one is a memory that puts a smile on my face. And thinking about them let's me know how far I've come and what I've been through, and why now, I definitely deserve to smile. So I will. Labels: listy Monday, March 19, 2012 || 1:30 AM
In these late hours, when there's too much on my mind for me to fall asleep, I toss and I turn and then finally, I write. And since my head is nothing short of a jumbled mess at the moment, I figured I'd make a list. Because I love a good list. So here's a list of things I miss, sans explanation. Because trust, every bullet point is a long ass story that's making me tired at just the thought of telling it. So here goes....

My best friend Andy's house is one of my favorite places in Brooklyn. That says a lot, as Brooklyn is the shit (to all you suckers who live in Queens #sub). Aside from the fact that he's one of my best friends, so he's good company when we're not attempting to strangle each other, he also has the awesomest house ever (besides mine). So, you guys know I love a good list. Here are all the reasons I love going to Andy's house....
So there you have it. All the things I love about Andy's house, which is crazy because he barely has time to enjoy them all the way I do. I'm just waiting for him to cut me a set of keys, and then I can slowly begin moving my things in. Until then, I'll have to love it from afar or, more likely, by breaking and entering. I'm sure no one will mind. Labels: friends and fam, in real life, listy Wednesday, February 1, 2012 || 3:01 PM
A friend of mine advised me that I should pass the test God has given me in my testimony, and then share it with someone. So here is my testimony (one of them, anyway). Today is my nephew's birthday and he hasn't the slightest clue who I am. Furthermore, he hasn't the slightest clue who his own father is because his father (my brother) died a month before he was born. This was about 2 years ago. My brother was the closest person to me in the world. He always looked out for me, laughed at my stupid jokes and seemed to have an infinite wisdom about everything I was going through. Since he's been gone, God has brought some people into my life and taken others out but I always say everything happens for a reason. It's something I have to believe for the sake of my own sanity because of the way he died. But here's the thing. Though there is no one in existence who could possibly take my brothers place in my life, God has given me amazing friends to ease the pain of his absence. I always say that some friends are angels and I truly believe that. So this one is for you guys.
To Casandra, for holding my hand on the single most difficult day of my life. To Denise, for being my sister. To Andy, for being the best husband I never wanted. To Wanda, for always putting things into perspective. To Shane, for picking up where Sean left off. To Jendi, for your continued presence in the face of change. To Emma, for assuring me and reassuring me that my life does not depress you. To Anderson, for forcing me to laugh when all I want to do is cry. To Laos, for inspiring me to pass the test in my testimony. Thank you Labels: friends and fam, listy, personals Sunday, March 13, 2011 || 5:29 AM
It should be 4:15 instead of 5:15. Why must my clock lie to me? So the clock isn't lying. Smh at daylight savings time. This music isn't helping sleep come any faster. I wish I could turn my brain off, just long enough to fall asleep. I tried crying to make this irritation go away and couldn't shed not one tear. Wonder what that means. Ok but honestly......screw it, I'm not even gonna say it. *moving right along* I wonder if they're still slandering that dude on twitter. That shit was hilarious. Wonder what them mentions look like lmao I look mad crazy in that hospital pic cassy took of me. Not bad as far as hospital pics go tho. And now there's a video. I just can't. I know this is supposed to be random 5am thoughts but I can't blog about all the shit I'm thinking so this is actually kinda useless. *praying very hard for sleep to come* G'morning.

I remember a few years ago, when my best friend was still living in Florida, she came to visit me one summer and it was one of the greatest summers I’ve had. And I remember at the end of summer, I made a list of things I love and it was all our summer memories and to an outsider, it would look like we had our own language. You know, your basic teenage girl stuff. I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic lately so I figured I’d make a new list of things I love and see how much things have changed since our teenage years.Things I love: My bestie The unicorn My “husband” WTF…is that MOOSE?! Parties with chicken next to them Dyamond knowing where she lives Swizzy #2 Killing aliens with Bobby S-dot flame on a vespa *Haitian accent* “he’s a teeeeeenager, like y’all!” Hoodie weather Being soho sluts Chipotle burritos Hella long road trips Beaches in January Carlette’s “surprised” face Being the enforcer Cassy’s “good water” face The fact that her dad still calls me his daughter in law *rolls eyes* *chipmunk noises* Harassing boodacakus via twitter The fact that after all these years, we’re still the biggest dorks with each other It’s funny how so much has changed but the important things always seem to stay the same. *shrug* I guess that’s life. Everyone has things that annoy them more than other things, or things they’ll be willing to tolerate over others or whatever the case may be. But you guys get what I’m saying: things annoy me (as I made clear in the first part of this post, so very long ago). Now, we shall revisit my crazy brain to see what a few more of those things are.1. Mmm…cheese! Cheese happens to be one of my favorite foods in the world, which is why it hurts my heart to see people abuse it. The jenked up Grenadians I live with have no respect for cheese. They chop it up all unevenly and leave it uncovered to get all dried out in the fridge. REALLY?!? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to cut cheese straight and it’s not that difficult to cover it when you’re done with it. If there was an 11th commandment, I’m sure it would be “thou shall not disrespect the cheese!”…but that’s just me *shrug* 2. Toilet paper…ROLL OVER!! No offense but if you’re one of the many people who roll the toilet paper under instead of over, you’re kind of a moron. And I know that saying no offense before I say something offensive doesn’t make it any less offensive but if you weren’t a moron, you wouldn’t be offended. So technically, this is all your fault. I’m just sayin. 3. Diet soda. Soda is one of the unhealthiest beverages you can drink. I say, if you’re gonna be unhealthy, don’t half ass it, do it all the way. 4. People who drink diet soda at the movies. Diet soda is already annoying so just imagine, you’re standing in line at the concession stand at the movies and the fat ass in front of you is placing their order… “Yea, lemme get a large popcorn, extra butter, snow caps, jelly beans, nachos, a hot dog with mustard…and a diet coke.” REALLY?!?! So you honestly think that your diet battery acid will help the fact that you just ate half the theater?? Kill yourself…preferably slowly, thanks. These are just a few more of the things that irk my nerves. Now that you know, DON’T DO ‘EM! Labels: babble and rant, listy Thursday, May 20, 2010 || 6:28 PM
As you guys know, I’m a fan of lists. Nothing makes my day like a good list of stuff. Honestly, what kind of disorganized weirdo doesn’t like lists? Anywhoo, now that I’ve proclaimed my odd love for lists, I’ll get to the point. As of late, I’ve had one thing on my mind. And that just won’t do. So, I give to you… Sasha’s list of things to do when you can’t get your stupid, insanely good looking boyfriend out of your head. Good, right? I know! Ok so here goes…

All my life, I've heard the phrase "men are from Mars and women are from Venus" and I never fully understood what that meant. Now I realize it must mean that Martians lack brains because men seem to be completely incapable of intelligent thought. Apparently, the possession of a Y chromosome causes severe and irreversible stupidity. They do and say the dumbest things and I just wonder "what were you thinking?!" but then I realize that (obviously) they weren't thinking because when you point out their stupid mistakes, they're completely clueless as to what they did wrong. So now, I'll try (however pointless this may be) to give you men a little insight into the mind and language of the Venetian goddesses you're all lucky enough to have in your lives and maybe, just maybe, this will help you keep them there.

It's currently 2:30am and I'm still awake. It's been like this for about 3 months and those of you who are present in my life know what that dates back to. So I figured I'd write a list of things I do when I'm not sleeping. I love lists, don't you?
